James Foulkes
James Foulkes
James Foulkes has been studying personal development for more than 8 years. His diverse set of practices includes Yoga,
Meditation, Qi Gong, Kung Fu and shamanic movement practices. He is also training in Cranial Sacral Therapy and Chinese Medicine. James enjoys finding parallels between these practices and feels the basis of them is unity, integration and wholeness.
James grew up in England and has moved to Washington D.C., after 8 years working within a corporate environment. He was initially drawn to yoga after a basketball career left him with a series of injuries.
His approach to yoga is based on the work of Vanda Scaravelli, an Italian who studied with J Krishnamurti, BKS Iyengar and TKV Desikachar for 2 decades. James completed a Teacher Training Course based on this approach, at Natural Bodies Yoga, Movement and Therapy Centre in Brighton.
His practise and teaching combines elements of Yoga Asana, Freeing movement, Pranayama, Meditation, Qi Gong, Tai Chi, Kung Fu and Cranial Sacral Therapy. His emphasis is on finding freedom within form, structure within chaos and on playfully exploring the energetics of practice. He brings information from many related fields together with the aim to to enhance understanding. Through this process he hopes that this will enable each individual to find a doorway to their own unique experience.
James lives in Washington DC and has a busy practise of classes and private work. He teaches in Yoga studios, apartment buildings, corporate offices and takes outpatients for the GW Centre for Integrative Medicine.
